Alexandria Douziech

Alexandria Douziech is a research-based artist and art educator. Drawing inspiration from her familial connection to cash crops and plantation labor, her work centers on nature, exploitation, and resilience. Alexandria holds a BFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has exhibited works across the country, with recent solo exhibitions at Blue Roof Studios and LAVC Gallery in Los Angeles. Alexandria is also a recipient of the California Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship for Emerging Artists. In addition to her artistic practice, Alexandria has worked as an educator at the California African American Museum (CAAM), and oversaw adult education at the Underground Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). As lead educator at MOCA, she launched adult education initiatives and community programs with local nonprofits. Currently, Alexandria teaches “Visual Art and the Human Experience” and “Seminar in Critical Race Theory” at AMDA College of Performing Arts in Hollywood, CA. Alexandria is also the founder of the Center for Plants & Culture— a BIPOC educational website (plantsandculture.org) and social media account (@plant.and.culture). Exploring the many ways our politics, economics, and culture are shaped by plants, this platform highlights marginalized narratives and histories that are often excluded from Western botanical institutions.
