Alexis Williams
Alexis Williams is a storyteller, painter and rootworker based on native Timucua and Apalachee lands in North Florida. She engages in intuitive research and symbolism through imagery, narrative, poetics and essay to uncover the mythological dimension of the natural world. Her practice in herbal medicine parallels an active dialogue with the ethnoecological origins of paint.
Opening the gateway for deep listening and communication with plant, animal and mineral intelligences, Alexis investigates organic matter to preserve the coastal lifeways and ancient wisdom of her African ancestors. She studied fine art at Parsons School of Design, and painting at Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Florida, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Philadelphia and London. Her writing has appeared in the Santa Clara Review, Helen Literary Magazine and Elan. She is the seed of Genie Botanica, a creative studio for paint, literature and divination that illuminates cosmological lineages of art, astrology and science.
