Dorothy Alexis Williams is a painter and poet based on occupied Timucua land in North Florida. She engages in intuitive research and symbolism through imagery, poetics and essay to uncover the mythological dimension of the natural world.

Her practice in herbal medicine parallels an active dialogue with the ethnoecological origins of paint. Opening the gateway for deep listening and communication with plant, animal and mineral intelligences, Dorothy investigates organic matter to preserve the coastal lifeways and ancient wisdom of her African ancestors.

She studied fine art at Parsons School of Design, and painting at Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and London. She is the seed of Genie Botanica, a paint research studio and literary project that illuminates geohistorical lineages of art and indigenous science.
