Gala Prudent is an interdisciplinary artist from Brooklyn, NY. She uses her practice to unearth and interrogate the properties of black metaphysics, often in direct response to the writers of the current canon of black critical thought. Her work spans installation and analog photography, seeking to locate or imagine aliveness as an allegory for blackness in the materials she employs.

Gala received her bachelor’s degree in Modern Culture and Media and Visual Art from Brown University, studied Art at The Cooper Union and was admitted to Yale’s Norfolk Residency. In conjunction with her visual practice, she writes prose about black embodiment, visuality, and contemporary art.

During her time as a Fernland resident, Gala is eager to interrogate folk histories of liquidity, jouissance, and liberatory transformation and to further situate her practice in environmental theory and action. She hopes to produce a short book in which image and poetic phrase function equally towards an expression of a reimagined, omni-temporal body. Find examples of her work at galaprudent.com
