She is the 2025 Art in Library Spaces Artist-in-Residence at the University of Virginia. Tolbert was the 2024 New City Arts Fellowship Guest Curator, and served as 2024-25 Chair of the Charlottesville Tree Commission. Tolbert has received fellowship and residency support from the U.S.-Italy Fulbright Commission, New City Arts, Community of Writers, and Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, and Cave Canem. Her recent poetry and prose can be found at Poem-a-Day, Emergence Magazine, West Branch, Poets for Science, and Ran Off With the Star Bassoon. She holds degrees from Stanford University, the University of Virginia, and the University of Gastronomic Sciences. Shade is a place is her first book. Gutierrez leads projects related to forestry and natural resource planning, education, and community outreach and engagement. Her most recent work taps into her lived and professional experience in working alongside Tribes and Indigenous communities to apply Indigenous Knowledge System frameworks to forest and natural resource planning that centers the community’s values, needs, and goals. She enjoys working with communities to bring vibrant storytelling about forests, foods, and fire to life through a variety of mediums including videos and experiential field tours. Gutierrez’s work grounds itself in authentic relationships and accountability between organizations, Tribes, and other BIPOC communities and organizations. She dreams of cultivating spaces for healing in community with all our relations. She is at heart a writer and you can find her work published in places such as Toyon, Osiyo, Journal of Forestry, Tlaa: A Collective of Indigenous Expression. When she’s not hanging out with her dog Lu, she’s working on a small, chapbook of poetry named Salt. Illahee, Oregon Zoë Gamell Brown is an East Coast-born, Gulf Coast-raised storyteller, educator, founder and co-steward of Fernland Studios. Zoë carries intergenerational Boviander knowledge of plants, rivers, and ritual care from the Jishikibo and Bouruma Rivers to Wapato Island. Their work bridges art, Earth, and identity through narrative, herbal medicine, and land-based relationships. A decade into sobriety and community practice, Zoë brings a deep commitment to healing intergenerational Earth stories and supporting cultural rematriation. Through Fernland Studios and their scholarship as a doctoral candidate in the University of Oregon's Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies inaugural cohort, they build space for Black and Brown communities to center ancestral wisdom and creative sovereignty. Zoë's leadership is grounded in reciprocity, imagination, and devotion to Earth as ancestor, teacher, and kin. They are a Seeding Justice Lilla Jewel Awardee and a Madrona Fellow for Food Systems Leaders. They have received fellowships and residencies from Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, Caldera Arts, the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute, the Pacific Northwest Racial and Climate Justice Futures Institute, and the National Education for Women’s Leadership. legal consultation for small businesses, nonprofits, cooperatives, and other entities within the solidarity economy. Agustin Vega is the owner and sole practitioner of Vias para el Desarrollo (Pathways for Development), where he aims to create and work with organizations such as worker-owned cooperatives, housing cooperatives, worker self-directed nonprofits, and other equitable organizations within the solidarity economy. He started his legal career doing Tenants’ Rights work (including eviction defense and affirmative litigation) and eventually found his way to Workers' Rights with the Legal Services of Oregon’s Farmworkers’ Rights program. In this work he primarily handled cases regarding discrimination, retaliation, health and safety, and unemployment benefits. At the end of a case, he often saw his clients return to the same work system that had initially caused them harm. Agustin became increasingly interested in worker-owned cooperatives as a way to create new work systems to reduce these issues. His work in housing justice also grew an interest in housing cooperatives and community land trusts as a way to create permanent affordable housing. Agustin opened up Vias para el Desarrollo as a way to support the cooperative movement. He believes that workers should have democratic control over their work and an equitable division of profits, that housing should be a human right instead of a means of investment, and that cooperatives are a move towards a more equitable society. While cooperatives may not have all the answers, he hopes that along this path we may find solutions we couldn’t have yet imagined. We help our clients tap into our collective intelligence and imagination to create new possibilities for justice and belonging to thrive. She has made a life and a living shifting how racism, power, and oppression impact the health of individuals and communities. For the better part of 20 years Daesha has facilitated meaningful conversations and transformation on complex systems change and community engagement. Daesha has worked with non-profits, government agencies, and companies around the world to center people on the margins of our systems to improve maternal and child health, early childhood, gender justice, violence prevention and access to basic healthcare services. Daesha is a frequent public speaker on ethical storytelling, decolonizing research & evaluation, and using human-centered design in systems change and community engagement strategies. Daesha identifies as a first-generation South Asian queer cis-woman of color. She holds a PhD from Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University as well as a BSFS from the Edmund A.
