  • Artist Residencies

    Residencies provide space and time for creators, cultivators, and cultural stewards to explore environmentalism through their proposed medium.

  • Creative Ecological Justice Fellowships

    Fellowships to support using creative practice to heal spirits, communities, and the land. Applications open in 2025.

  • Ecological Arts Funding

    Small grants for cultural producers to propose programs aligning with our mission, vision, and values.

  • Writing Retreats

    We offer one in-person week-long writing workshop for people to dream and write together.

  • Applications close on April 8. Applicants are notified of their acceptance by April 22. Check the program pages to see when they begin and end.

  • We encourage you to only apply for one program.

  • None! We don’t have application fees and all Fernland Studios programs are offered at no cost to the applicant.

  • No, kinda.

    Applicants across Turtle Island/the United States can apply to our artist residencies and writing retreats. We prioritize applicants in the Pacific Northwest for our writing retreats because travel is required, but they are open to everyone.

    Our ecological arts funding is for cultural producers working and living in the Pacific Northwest.

  • Thank you for your interest! Our 2024 speakers are confirmed, and you should contact us to discuss next year’s session or potential programming partnerships.

  • Yes, we support creators and cultivators 18 and older. We’re deeply interested in supporting intergenerational healing and welcome partnerships with youth organizations who would like to dream at the intersections of our collective work. Feel free to contact us if that applies to you and your org’s work.

  • Yes, the deadline is Monday, April 8, 11:59 pm pacific time.

  • We are asking for:

    • up to four work samples related to your proposed project or previous work

    • portfolios or your website

    • CV or resume.

    You’re welcome to share this as a link to a folder on Google Drive with all of this information, or you can share a link to your website if you have all of this information on one page there.

  • We are more than interested in ensuring our program meets your accessibility needs. We prioritize providing captions in our residency speaker sessions, and our writer's retreat location provides more insight into what ADA accommodations are available on their website.

    If you have additional accessibility needs, don’t hesitate to mention this in your application or during the programming.

  • Please share a maximum of eight pages of writing.

    This could be four two-page prose submissions or an eight-page creative nonfiction submission. It could also be a one-page poem and seven pages of creative nonfiction. The options are endless—we only ask you to share a maximum of eight pages.

    We welcome mixed genres and media submissions.

  • The question about program interest is solely for us to learn how you found Fernland. Your response is helpful for us to know to support future outreach programming. Your response will not impact your application.

    The letter of inquiry is specific to the program you’re applying for and gives us insight into your specific interest in the program.
