Amiya Janelle

I often find my art splitting into two categories: art that directly engages with social discourses or art as a tool to dissociate. I am interested in deepening my understanding of my art that dissociates since it entails meditative mark making of landscapes.

These pieces represent a part of me that longs to be in these moments where I have a better connection to land and nature. I want to question how these pieces that represent longing intersect with how I feel about the racialization, gendering, and enforcement of heterosexuality onto my body.
