As a Black woman and poet, much of my work is inspired by my fascination of the language that is created and experimented with by Black poets and especially Black femme eco poets. The vision for my work is a hybrid prose poetic narrative that describes the experiences of survival as a Black woman, particularly in the South, and pays homage to the resiliency of my ancestors by paying attention and giving honor to familiar ecology using particular detail around language, form and engaging the reader's senses.

For my creative process, I depend heavily upon reading, research and stories passed down through the women in my family. It is important for me to honor that by prioritizing integrity and raw honesty in the poetic narrative while challenging myself to expand my craft within the restriction of form and specific language. So far in my project I am focusing on expanding the pieces that I have by finding the common themes that could link them together in a cohesive manner. Some of themes explored in this project are Black womanhood, Texas imagery, coming of age, and spirituality. I am motivated to complete this project because I believe that it is important to pay homage to Black women through poetry and bring light to the ways in which their lived experiences expand how we experience culture and literature.
